VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT<br />

8. Remove:<br />

*Crankcase cover plate<br />

*Special washer<br />

plug<br />

NOTE:<br />

Check for clog of oil passage in the bolt.<br />

If any, clean the oil passage.<br />

Inspection and Adjustment<br />

1. Measure:<br />

*Valve clearance<br />

NOTE:<br />

Be sure piston is at Top Dead Center<br />

when measuring clearance.<br />

By the following measurement steps.<br />

Valve clearance measurement steps:<br />

*Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise with a<br />

32 mm (1.26 in) socket wrench .<br />

NOTE:<br />

Valve clearance must be measured when the<br />

engine is cool to the touch.<br />

*Align the " mark (for the No. 1cylinder)<br />

on the flywheel with the stationary pointer<br />

on the crankcase cover. When the<br />

mark is aligned with the stationary pointer<br />

,the piston is at top dead center TDC.<br />

*Note marks on flywheel to obtain correct<br />

valve clearance measurements.<br />

TDC for No. 1 cylinder<br />

TDC for No. 2 cylinder<br />

the valve clearance using a Feeler<br />

.<br />

Record the measured amount ifthe clearance<br />

is incorrect.<br />

Intake Valve (cold):<br />

0.11- 0.15 mm<br />

(0.004- 0.006 in)<br />

Exhaust Valve (cold):<br />

0.26 0.30 mm)<br />

(0.010 0.012 in)
