Removal
1. Remove: motor
Refer to "CHAPTER 3. ENGINE DIS-
ASSEMBLY" section.
Inspection and Repair
1. Inspect:
Commutator
Dirty Clean with grit sandpaper.
2. Measure:
Commutator diameter
Out of specification Replace starter
motor.
3. Measure:
undercut
(betweencommutator segments)
Out of specification Scrape mica to
proper valve.
Use a hacksaw blade that isground to fit.
Mica Undercut:
0.7 mm (0.028 in)
NOTE:
The mica insulation of the commutator must be
undercut to ensure proper operation of the
mu r.
4. Measure:
Continuity check
Insulation check
Armature coil
coil
Replace starter motor.
Insulation Resistance:
1Mi2 or more at 20°C
