To the Rotary Foundation and the Rotary Club Roma that, thanks to the Ambassadorial
scholarship, gave me the opportunity to deepen my PhD in the Netherlands.
To my family and my boyfriend Giorgio that always accepted my decisions, even the most
difficult. They supported me during the entire PhD, especially when I was in the Netherlands.
To all my supervisors:
Prof. Arch. A. Vidotto, professor on Architectural Composition – Roma Tre. He acted as my
promoter and main supervisor. He particularly supported all my decisions and gave me
fundamental suggestions. Thanks to Prof. Vidotto I got in touch with TUDelft and the nice
people at the Faculty of Architecture.
Prof. ir. A. Thomsen, professor on Housing Renovation & Housing Management – TUDelft. He
acted as my first external supervisor. He introduced me the Dutch context and had always been
available for any kind of question. He also looked behind my potentials and offered me the
chance to join a ‘second’ PhD in TUDelft. I will always be grateful for this.
ir. H. Westra, associated professor on Housing Management – TUDelft. He acted as my second
external supervisor and as a friend. He helped me to overcome not only the normal difficulties
related to a PhD but also the usual problems due to the daily life abroad.
dr. C. van Oel, associate professor on Research Methodologies – TUDelft. She was my first
officemate at TUDelft. She also checked parts of my PhD acting as a sort of supervisor. I am
really grateful for this. But more importantly, she behaved as a close friend always trusting me
and stimulating my qualities.
