Looking at the construction period, the stock is located over the consolidating city (between<br />

the beginning <strong>of</strong> the century and the 1950s), the expanding city (between the 1960s and the<br />

1980s) and the trans<strong>for</strong>ming city (after the 1980s) (Moranti, 1988).<br />

The stock <strong>of</strong> the expanding city is composed by three <strong>housing</strong> typologies that are the ‘in line’<br />

block, a kind <strong>of</strong> row house from 4 up to 15 storeys high; the ‘courtyard’, which derives from<br />

gathering the ‘in line’ block around the vertical structures; and the ‘tower’, usually from 6 to<br />

14 stories high.<br />

In agreement with the <strong>social</strong> <strong>housing</strong> standards, dwellings are 45m 2 per 1 person, 60 m 2 per<br />

2 people, 75 m 2 per 3 people and 90 m 2 per 4 people, but <strong>of</strong>ten flats reach also 120m 2 .<br />

Further details about the stock are not immediately available and should be derived crossing<br />

administrative in<strong>for</strong>mation with the cadastral paper database.<br />

Since there is no existing updated database, the institute is unable to know exactly what the<br />

size, the quality and the age <strong>of</strong> its stock are. Often, is not clear how a household is living in a<br />
