INDICATIONS AND ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS
IN EMERGENCY RADIOLOGY
The standard of health care for emergency patients is defined prospectively.
The aim is to ensure protocols and practice algorithms through
knowledge and skills of the radiology team in order to avoid misdiagnosis.
Continuous consultations with the emergency clinician and good communication
with the patient is essential.
Polytrauma patients often need to go through repeated radiology exams.
MSCT exam brings substantially higher cumulative dose of radiation.
It should be used wisely in population’s generative age. Assessing
operative treatment for spinal trauma with MRI is mandatory. It is also performed
after CT evaluation for neurotrauma patients. Ultrasound is done
for abdominal and soft tissue trauma, but does not exclude MSCT. Optimal
radiological procedures for pregnant women and children are considered.
The basic postulate in radiology is the ALARA principle – as low as reasonably
achievable – i.e. minimalizing radiation dose together with achieving
fine image quality for a correct diagnosis.

Od grčkog pojma sophia do Potterovog pojma mudrosti i biološkog
znanja, autor analizira različite filozofske i znanstvene koncepte znanja.
Autor se slaže s Jaspersom u stavu da ono što je »iz filozofije prevedivo u
zajedničko mišljenje, to na koncu odlučuje o njezinoj vrijednosti«. Autor
zaključuje da novoj epohi i bioetičkoj perspektivi odgovara zahtjev za orijentacijskim
znanjem, te ga nastoji definirati ne samo iz povijesti filozofije
(Kant, Jaspers), nego i iz zahtjeva nove epohe.
