THANATOLOGY AND BIOETHICS
Human history has developed a rather negative attitude to death. It has
been treated as a supreme evil, the synonym of nothingness. People have
always regarded death as a great inexplicable terror and this puts them
in awe of it. Thanatology is the science of death. Modern thanatology is
trying to emphasize the link between life and death. We have to put up
with the fact that death is an element of life, and sooner or later we will
inevitably face it. At the same time, people have put life on a pedestal always
higher than death. Life has been treated as the greatest gift, and death
has been regarded as inferior vague mystery. Life and death have always
fought for priority.
TANATOLOGIJA I BIOETIKA
Ljudska povijest je razvila poprilično negativan stav prema smrti. Smrt
se tretira kao vrhovno zlo, sinonim za ništavilo. Ljudi su je oduvijek promatrali
kao veliki neobjašnjivi užas što je i uzrokovalo odbojnost prema
njoj. Tanatologija je znanost o smrti. Moderna tanatologija pokušava staviti
naglasak na vezu između života i smrti. Moramo se pomiriti s činjenicom
da je smrt dio života, i da ćemo se prije ili kasnije morati suočiti s njom.
Ljudi istovremeno stavljaju život na postolje uvijek više od smrti. Život se
smatra najvećim darom, a smrt inferiornim mračnim misterijem. Život i
smrt su se oduvijek borili za primat.
