Mary Stanley taught at Syracuse <strong>University</strong>’s Maxwell School <strong>of</strong> Citizenship<br />

<strong>and</strong> Public Affairs <strong>for</strong> many years. Currently she is an independent<br />

scholar, writer, <strong>and</strong> researcher. She has published in the areas <strong>of</strong> citizenship,<br />

service learning, <strong>and</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> women in public life. Mary was a founder<br />

/producer/host <strong>of</strong> the award-winning NPR affiliate WAER’s,“Women’s<br />

Voices Radio.”Presently she is researching the role <strong>of</strong> cross-cultural democratic<br />

deliberation in sustainable community <strong>and</strong> economic development<br />

through the arts. Stanley lives in Parati, Brazil, <strong>and</strong> Syracuse, NewYork.<br />

Adam Weinberg is provost <strong>and</strong> senior vice president <strong>for</strong> academic affairs at<br />

World Learning <strong>and</strong> the School <strong>for</strong> International Training. From 1994-2005,<br />

he was on the faculty at Colgate <strong>University</strong> where he served in a number <strong>of</strong><br />

positions including Dean <strong>of</strong> the <strong>College</strong>. During this time, he worked <strong>and</strong><br />

wrote extensively on how universities can be catalysts <strong>for</strong> social <strong>and</strong> economic<br />

development. In his new position with World Learning, Weinberg<br />

oversees ef<strong>for</strong>ts in more than 75 countries to connect education to social justice,<br />

equity, <strong>and</strong> human rights ef<strong>for</strong>ts.<br />

Deborah Witte is coeditor <strong>of</strong> the Higher Education Exchange <strong>and</strong> a program<br />

<strong>of</strong>ficer with the Kettering Foundation. She is also a doctoral student in the<br />

Leadership <strong>and</strong> Change in the Pr<strong>of</strong>essions program at Antioch <strong>University</strong>.<br />
