THE EFFECT OF ENDOSCOPIC SINUS SURGERY ON<br />

<strong>SLEEP</strong>-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE AND SEVERITY OF<br />

INSOMNIA IN CHRONIC RHINOSINUSITIS<br />

Introduction: In chronic rhinosinusitis, the sleep disturbance is the one<br />

of the troublesome clinical manifestations, and may be caused by various<br />

sinusitis-related symptoms such as nasal congestion, posterior nasal<br />

drip, cough and so on. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect<br />

of endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) on sleep related quality of life and<br />

severity of insomnia in patients who has chronic rhinosinusitis.<br />

Methods: Subjects were 28 patients diagnosed as chronic rhinosinusitis<br />

and who underwent endoscopic sinus surgery from December 2007 to<br />

January 2009. To reveal the change of sleep disturbance after the surgery,<br />

the questionnaires about the sleep related quality of life, and insomnia<br />

such as Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and Insomnia<br />

Severity Index (ISI) were performed before and after the surgery.<br />

Results: Most sino-nasal symptoms and sinusitis related quality of life<br />

were improved significantly after the surgery (P
