Introduction: Cognitive and behavioral symptoms are associated with<br />

sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) in children but resolution after treatment<br />

by adenotonsillectomy (AT) is variable. Children’s body mass<br />

index (BMI) and age could influence outcomes, but have not been extensively<br />

examined in this context.<br />

Methods: Children (n=100, age 3-8 years) referred for AT, based on<br />

office visits only, were evaluated before and 6 months after surgery.<br />

Evaluations included: height, weight, nocturnal polysomnography, neuropsychological<br />

tests, and parent behavioral ratings. SDB was defined<br />

by a respiratory disturbance index (RDI)>1. Repeated Measures ANO-<br />

VAs were computed to examine effects of Age (3-5, 5.1-8 years), BMI<br />

(>90th percentile=“heavier”;
