Health Facility:<br />

Get health workers to to follow their code of practice <strong>and</strong> treat all patients with<br />

respect.<br />

Get health workers to talk openly about their concerns about MSM patients, <strong>and</strong><br />

correct their misconceptions.<br />

Encourage health workers to stop gossiping <strong>and</strong> name calling <strong>and</strong> protect con<br />

fidentiality.<br />

Train doctors <strong>and</strong> other health workers on basic skills in the management of STIs<br />

in MSM.<br />

Train health workers on how to counsel MSM patients, for example in using<br />

non- judgmental, neutral language.<br />

Community:<br />

Teach the community to treat MSM like any other members of the community.<br />

Help leaders underst<strong>and</strong> MSM so they can speak out on their behalf.<br />

Include MSM topic in community meetings <strong>and</strong> encourage MSM to give<br />

testimonies.<br />

Empower MSM to participate in community activities.<br />

Lobby local authorities to provide support to MSM. In some cases they<br />

are not even aware that there are MSM<br />

living in theircommunities.<br />

MSM should hold stigma workshops to<br />

first underst<strong>and</strong> stigma themselves, <strong>and</strong><br />

then educate service providers <strong>and</strong><br />

community leaders.<br />
