Exhibitors'
To Get 20th-Fox Backing
CHARLOTTE—Twentieth Century-Fox will
work with any exhibitor group planning a
specific bold and aggressive showmanship
plan, Jonas Rosentield jr., advertising manager,
said at the Theatre Owners of North
and South Carolina meeting.
Rosenfield pointed to the five-circuit cooperative
campaign on "All About Eve" in
New York City as an example of showmen
banding together to offset the blows of television
and other entertainment media attracting
people away from the theatre. Calling
television the "No. 1 retail advertiser of
the country." Rosenfield said that a number
of theatre advertising budgets compare unfavorably
with the efforts of TV manufacturers
and producers.
General Release Is Set
For 'Harvey' by U-I
NEW YORK—"Harvey," Universal-International
film starring James Stewart, will be
given general release starting Christmas to
New Year's week with extended key-city runs
at popular prices, according to W. A. Scully,
vice-president and general sales manager,
and Alfred E. Daff. vice-president and new
head of world sales.
The sole exception will be a limited engagement
at the Carthay Circle Theatre,
Hollywood, starting late in December. This
has been set to qualify the film for Academy
Award consideration. As previously reported,
"Harvey" also will open an extended run at
popular prices at the Astor Theati'e here
early in January.
Scully and Daff said the openings will be
backed with heavy advertising and publicity.
