MIAMI
Art Green heads the Variety Club's radio
committee for the December 11 performance
of "Susan and God" at the Mayfair Art.
All proceeds go to the children's hospital . . .
Manger Dan Cudone of Brandt's Roosevelt,
which recently went on a first run policy, has
billed "Macbeth" with Orson 'Welles as a
roadshow picture at popular prices . . . "King
Solomon's Mines" was in its .second week at
the Florida and Colony.
The women's organizations of the local Variety
Club, indefatigable workers ever since
the creation of this division, auditioned professional
tenor and baritone singers to pick
the right performer for the coming fashion
show. The women's committee has had great
success with this form of money-raising plan.
The shows are put on very professionally and
draw well.
Al Wilkie says that the circuit's Paramount
Theatre is scheduled to reopen December 7
instead of November 30 as previously planned.
First attraction will be "Let's Dance," now
at the Claughton Variety, Miami Beach. The
Paramount has been closed while getting a
complete renovation job.
The Miami Variety Club will elect officers
December 4. Among nominees for the crew
are Mark Chartrand, Bill Dock, Jack Bell,
Jesse Weiss ... In pre-Thanksgiving advertising,
the Wometco circuit printed the picture
of a turkey beside the name of each
theatre which had them to give away. That
made a whole flock of birds since 11 theatres
