Good Pictures Still
Best Defense for TV
SPRINGFIELD, OHIO—Have no fear that
motion pictures are not here to stay, says
Maurice N. Wolf of Boston, a member of the
MGM public relations department. Hollywood
has no intention of darkening the movie
screens because of television, he added.
"Good pictures are doing record busine.ss
just the same as they did in the bu.siest
days," Wolf told members of the Lions club
here. He said this indicates to the industry
that there is a future for the business, regardless
of television which is now seen as
just another medium in the field of entertainment.
The industry also has great faith
that the economy of this country will allow
both films and other mediums to thrive side
by side, he said.
During his stay here. Wolf pointed out that
the motion picture industry is similar to any
other business. Most of its investment is in
communities outside of Hollywood. Of 206,000
persons engaged in the industry, only 31,000
are in Hollywood. He stated that theatres
employ local people, pay local taxes, buy
supplies locally and promote and participate
in projects of community interest and benefit.
"It's a local business," he said.
