337-LEADERSHIP SKILLLS. Leading any organization poses challenges, but leading<br />

an entrepreneurial organization from concept to reality and beyond is particularly<br />

challenging. This course focuses on developing practical leadership skills. It<br />

provides students with selfassessment, developmental exercises, and case studies<br />

to prepare them for leadership roles in a small business environment.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered Fall semester.<br />

338-INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP. This course provides an<br />

introduction to the entrepreneur and the challenges the entrepreneur faces.<br />

The course emphasizes identifying and evaluating potential opportunities, early<br />

stage challenges, forming advisory boards, sources of funds and the importance<br />

of networking. Topics include the entrepreneurial mindset, the entrepreneur’s<br />

challenges, opportunity identification and evaluation, intellectual property, startup<br />

strategies, working with partners, business valuation, attracting stakeholders,<br />

financing the venture, managing the growing business, and exit strategies.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered Fall semester.<br />

339-MARKETING WITH SOCIAL MEDIA AND TECHNOLOGY. Prerequisite: BUS<br />

325 or BUS 413. This applied learning experience is focused on understanding<br />

and then applying the concepts to enable new venture creation by marketing via<br />

technology enabled social media. The course will explore how companies have<br />

leveraged and grown their business with the various types of social media.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered Fall semester.<br />

353-MARKETING COMMUNICATION. Prerequisite: BUS 301. This course is an<br />

exploration of the role of communications in stimulating demand for products<br />

and services. Sales promotion, advertising, public relations, direct marketing, and<br />

personal selling strategies are examined.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall and spring semestesr.<br />

362-ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR. Prerequisite: BUS 310. Behavioral science<br />

approach to organizational management problems created by the interaction<br />

of individuals, groups, and organizations. Topics examined include motivation,<br />

leadership, organizational change, and development.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester.<br />

366-SPECIAL EVENTS AND PROGRAMMING MANAGEMENT. Pre-requisites:<br />

BUS 301; BUS 302; BUS 310. This course will provide the student with the basic<br />

principles involved in special event, festival, and leisure program planning and<br />

management. Topics may include: the significance of conventions, events,<br />

and festivals; event design; infrastructure requirements; planning procedures;<br />

volunteer recruitment and training; sponsorship; and methods of development<br />

and evaluation.<br />
