233-MUSIC THEORY III. Prerequisites: MUS 141 (Music theory II); MUS 235 (Aural<br />

skills III), MUS 237 (Keyboard harmony III). A study of counterpoint, chromatic<br />

harmony, and twentieth century techniques. Emphasis is placed on a thorough<br />

analysis of complete short to medium length compositions.<br />

Credit, two semester hours. Offered fall semester, alternating years.<br />

234-CHORAL CONDUCTING. Prerequisites: MUS 145 (keyboard harmony II), MUS<br />

141 (Music Theory II), MUS 143 (Aural skills II), and permission of instructor. Basic<br />

conducting technique is developed in a laboratory setting for practical application<br />

with choral ensembles.<br />

Credit, two semester hours. Offered fall semester, alternating years.<br />

235-AURAL SKILLS III. Prerequisite: MUS 143 (Aural Skills II); Co-requisites: MUS<br />

237 (Keyboard harmony III), MUS 233 (Music Theory III). Advanced sight singing<br />

and ear training including chromatic melodies, irregular meters, changing meters,<br />

jazz syncopations, transcriptions of popular idiom songs, and error detection in<br />

three-voice examples.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered fall semester, alternating years.<br />

236-INSTRUMENTAL CONDUCTING. Prerequisite: MUS 234 (choral conducting)<br />

and permission. Basic conducting and baton technique are developed in a<br />

laboratory setting for practical application in instrumental conducting. The study<br />

of instrumentation, score study, and transposition as they apply to instrumental<br />

conducting are included.<br />

Credit, two semester hours. Offered spring semester, alternating years.<br />

237-KEYBOARD HARMONY III. Prerequisite: MUS 145 (keyboard harmony II) or<br />

permission of instructor. Final preparation for the completion of the keyboard<br />

proficiency exam.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered fall semester, alternating years.<br />

313-APPLIED MUSIC: VOCAL. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. Individual<br />

instruction in voice at the appropriate level. One sixty-minute lesson per week.<br />

At the time of the jury examination at the end of each semester, consideration<br />

is given to technical proficiency, practice record, level of repertoire, and quality<br />

of performance in determining proficiency level for the following semester. A<br />

minimum of two semester hours is required of all music majors.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. May be repeated for credit. Offered fall and spring<br />

semesters.<br />
