305-PHYSICAL EDUCATION FOR THE ELEMENTARY TEACHER. This course includes<br />

methods, materials, activities, and curriculum design and development of physical<br />

education programs in the elementary grades.<br />

Two hours a week. Credit, one semester hour. Offered fall semester, alternate<br />

years.<br />

308-STORYTELLING. Study of and practices in storytelling. Uses of storytelling<br />

in various settings including classrooms, libraries, churches, homes, and public<br />

events.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered alternate spring<br />

semesters.<br />

309-STORYTELLING WORKSHOP. The purpose of this workshop is to allow<br />

students to investigate techniques not normally taught within the curriculum. It<br />

involves attending the National Storytelling Festival with follow-up assignments<br />

emphasizing the use of knowledge gained during the convention. Students will<br />

have the opportunity to meet recognized, active storytellers on an informal basis<br />

and receive instruction in a new area.<br />

One hour a week. Credit, one semester hour. Offered fall semester.<br />

310-FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION. The historical, social and philosophical<br />

foundations of education are covered in this course. Curriculum development,<br />

research and legal aspects of teaching typical and special needs children are<br />

included, as well as educational governance, finance and teacher organizations<br />

related to the public schools. Students must submit the application for admission<br />

to the teacher education program by the end of this course.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall, spring and summer<br />

semesters.<br />

316-ART IN SCHOOLS: PREK-12. A study of the philosophy, curriculum, methods,<br />

and materials of an art program PREK-12, including methods for teaching<br />

exceptional children. Cross-listed with Art 316.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester (alternate<br />

years).<br />

318-DIAGNOSTIC AND REMEDIAL READING PRACTICUM. Prerequisites: Education<br />

342 or consent of instructor. Students use diagnostic procedures and techniques<br />

in determining causes of reading difficulties and planning instruction to meet the<br />

needs of an individual student. Practical application of the instructional plans<br />

constitutes the remainder of the semester-long field experience. Professional<br />

association membership required.<br />
