NOTE: Registration requirement: Spaces in Equine Studies classes are limited<br />

to Equine Studies majors or minors during the pre-registration period. Nonmajors<br />

may register for Equine Studies classes (if room permits) during regular<br />

registration at the opening of the semester.<br />

101-FUNDAMENTALS OF RIDING. (BEGINNER/ ADVANCED BEGINNER).<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor. Beginner: This course is designed for the<br />

student with no riding experience or with no hunt seat experience. The student<br />

will be introduced to the basics of proper position at the walk, trot, and canter;<br />

to hunt seat terminology, and to low fences. Advanced Beginner: Emphasis is on<br />

securing the rider’s position on the flat and over fences, with further exposure<br />

to jumping. To enter this level the student should be able to exhibit good basic<br />

control over a horse ridden in a group.<br />

Two mounted hours a week. Credit, one semester hour. May be repeated for<br />

credit. Offered fall semester.<br />

102-FUNDAMENTALS OF RIDING (ADVANCED BEGINNER).<br />

Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor. Continuation of Equine Studies 101.<br />

Two mounted hours a week. Credit, one semester hour. May be repeated for<br />

credit. Offered spring semester.<br />
