211-GRAPHIC DESIGN. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. A foundation in the<br />

principles and practices of graphic design. Special emphasis will be placed on the<br />

use of the computer as a graphic design tool.<br />

One lecture hour and four studio hours a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

212-COLOR THEORY. An introduction to the basic principles of color theory to<br />

include additive, subtractive, and partitive color systems. The course will examine<br />

the creation and use of color across fine and applied arts disciplines. This course<br />

will explore the physical facts of coloring matter and light along with human<br />

physiology and psychology.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

220-WORKSHOPS I. Permission of instructor required. The purpose of these<br />

workshops is to introduce techniques and media not normally taught within<br />

the curriculum. They will involve lectures and demonstrations by artists and<br />

photographers with follow-up assignments emphasizing the use of knowledge<br />

gained during the workshop. Students will have the opportunity to meet<br />

recognized, active artists on an informal basis and to receive instruction in new<br />

areas.<br />

Time arranged. Credit, one semester hour. Pass-Fail only. May be repeated for<br />

credit. Offered as needed.<br />

221-CERAMICS. Permission of instructor required. A studio course in ceramics<br />

including working with the potter’s wheel in conjunction with hand building<br />

techniques to produce functional and non-functional ware, and the firing of these<br />

wares in low and high-firing processes.<br />

One lecture hour and four studio hours a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

223-SCULPTURE. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. An introduction to<br />

sculpture to produce 3-D Art and may include several of the following: modeling,<br />

carving, building, casting, construction or welding.<br />

One lecture hour and four studio hours a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

225-PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. This<br />

seminar class provides students pursuing the A.A. Degree in Graphic Design<br />

with a structured format for discussing resumes, portfolios, slides, employment<br />

possibilities, and interviewing skills.<br />

One hour a week. Credit, one semester hour. Pass-Fail only. Offered fall and<br />

spring semesters.<br />
