Criminal Justice (Minor)<br />

(The Criminal Justice Minor is being phased out and is only applicable for currently<br />

enrolled Junior or Senior status students with previously declared Criminal Justice<br />

Minors. These prospective graduates must meet all graduation requirements and<br />

graduate within the phase out period, by the 2013 Spring semester.)<br />

Criminal Justice Courses<br />

101-INTRODUCTION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE. A study of the American criminal<br />

justice system, its procedures and processes, its history, philosophy, responsibilities<br />

and the functions of the police, courts, and corrections components.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

112-PROCEDURES IN CRIMINAL LAW. This course is a study of the criminal<br />

justice procedures criminal defendants will follow from arrest through conviction,<br />

sentencing, and release. Areas of emphasis include arrest, bail, arraignment, the<br />

grand jury, pleas and plea bargaining, the trial process, sentencing, probation and<br />

parole revocations, and appeals.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester.<br />

201-JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. Prerequisite: CJ 101. This course focuses on the<br />

development and structure of the juvenile offenders, and effective treatment and<br />

prevention strategies.<br />
