408-RESEARCH DESIGN I. Prerequisite: Psychology 101, 201, 202, or 203,<br />

Mathematics 205 and senior standing or permission of instructor. This course<br />

is a study of current research techniques, methods, and statistics used in the<br />

behavioral and social sciences. It includes an introduction to both descriptive<br />

and inferential techniques. Attention is given to both univariate and multivariate<br />

techniques. Cross listed as Psychology 408.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester.<br />

409-RESEARCH DESIGN II. Prerequisites: Psychology/Sociology 408 and CIM<br />

102. A continuation of the study of current research techniques, methods,<br />

and statistics used in the behavioral and social sciences. Emphasis is placed on<br />

research design and appropriate statistical procedures for analysis of data. Cross<br />

listed as Psychology 409.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester.<br />

424-INTERNSHIP IN SOCIOLOGY. Prerequisites: Senior standing with a minor<br />

in Sociology, 2.5 grade-point average, and permission of instructor. Provides<br />

students with experience in utilizing skills acquired in the gerontology or sociology<br />

minors. Cross-listed with Psychology 424.<br />

101-ELEMENTARY SPANISH I. This course stresses pronunciation, grammar,<br />

reading, conversation, and cultural aspects of Latin America.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester.<br />

102-ELEMENTARY SPANISH II. Prerequisite: Spanish 101 or advanced placement.<br />

A continuation of Spanish 101.<br />

Speech Courses<br />

100-SPEECH COMMUNICATION FOR ESL STUDENTS. This course introduces ESL<br />

students to general communication methods in academic courses and develops<br />

pronunciation skills. Organizing and producing oral presentations and small group<br />

discussions are covered. The importance of class discussions and communicative<br />

competence are addressed. Appropriate stress, intonation, and rhythm patterns<br />

are practiced. Possible class visits. With the approval of the Speech faculty,<br />

students who successfully complete SPCH 100 may enroll in SPCH 101.<br />
