307-CONSUMER CREDIT/BANKRUPTCY. Rights of consumers in credit transactions.<br />

Collection practices including fair credit reporting, filing creditor claims in court,<br />

obtaining judgments and levying. Interviewing bankruptcy clients, identifying<br />

assets and debts, reviewing bankruptcy documents. This course is highly technical<br />

in nature. It is intended only for upper-division Legal Studies majors. Others with<br />

work experience in the field may request permission of the instructor.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

308-JUVENILE LAW. History of juvenile justice system, role and responsibilities of<br />

juvenile justice personnel, administration and organization of the juvenile court<br />

services, juvenile disposition strategies, interrelationships between juvenile court<br />

and social service agencies. Students may visit juvenile court.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

309-ADMINISTRATIVE LAW. Constitutional foundations of administrative law<br />

and representation of claimants at administrative hearings. Fundamentals of<br />

hearing procedures. Due process and evidentiary considerations. Pre-hearing<br />

preparation. Students may attend administrative hearing(s).<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

310-UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT. A three-day trip to Washington, D.C. where<br />

the student will tour federal buildings and attend a reserved-seating session of<br />

the United States Supreme Court to hear oral argument. Requires payment of<br />

additional fee.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered as needed.<br />

312-FAMILY LAW. This course is designed to acquaint the student with the<br />

fundamental area of domestic relations law. Topics covered include annulment,<br />

divorce, custody, support, and adoption.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

313-LEGAL SOFTWARE. Prerequisites: Word processing, Legal Studies 201 and<br />

permission of instructor. Students will learn about technology used in providing<br />

legal services and will use legal software and technology currently available<br />

including internet, word processing, cd-rom products, on-line services, etc.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester.<br />

315-BUSINESS LAW I. The student studies the purposes and principles of law as<br />

related to everyday business transactions. This course includes a study of legal<br />

rights, contracts, sales and agency. The practical application of a knowledge of law<br />

and the ethical attitude toward law are stressed. (Cross-listed as Business 305)<br />
