Admissions, Expenses & Financial Aid 23<br />

The Director may admit this person with special requirements or deny admission<br />

based upon individual circumstance. The residency requirement for students in<br />

this program will be as follows: twenty-five percent of the total hours (124) needed<br />

to graduate must be taken at VI. These 31 hours, which satisfy VI’s residency<br />

requirement, need not be the last 31 hours completed by EWC students enrolled<br />

in the I.S. program. Any student denied admission because of failure to meet<br />

the admissions critera above may petition the Director of Teacher Education to<br />

request admittance as a provisional student.<br />

Students pursuing teaching licensure must take 100% of their professional studies<br />

requirements at <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Intermont</strong>. It is recommended that students pass PRAXIS<br />

1 before registering for Education 310: Foundations of Education. Passing scores<br />

on all <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Intermont</strong> <strong>College</strong> and <strong>Virginia</strong> Department of Education mandated<br />

assessments are required before student teaching.<br />

Persons holding bachelor’s degrees who are seeking certification only must meet<br />

the requirements of the <strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Intermont</strong> <strong>College</strong> approved program. Transcript<br />

evaluations to determine needed coursework will be completed following<br />

admission to the program. Teaching licensure requirements are subject to<br />

change by the Department of Education of <strong>Virginia</strong>. Programs of study are altered<br />

accordingly when changes are deemed necessary to assure that candidates meet<br />

licensure requirements.<br />

ADVANCED PLACEMENT<br />

<strong>Virginia</strong> <strong>Intermont</strong> participates in the Advanced Placement Program of the <strong>College</strong><br />

Entrance Examination Board. A minimum score of 3 on the advanced placement<br />

test is required to qualify for college credit.<br />

department or directly from the CEEB, www.collegeboard.com/student/testing.<br />

COLLEGE-LEVEL EXAMINATION PROGRAM<br />

The <strong>College</strong> participates in the <strong>College</strong>-Level Examination Program (CLEP) of<br />

the <strong>College</strong> Entrance Examination Board (CEEB). CLEP provides a means for<br />

recognizing and rewarding college-level achievement without regard to how it<br />

was attained. Applicants may receive advanced placement and academic credit<br />

by taking the CLEP examinations and making scores at the level recommended for<br />

credit by the CEEB.<br />
