315-THEATRE HISTORY I. A survey of the development of theatre from its<br />

beginnings as a social ritual to the beginning of the Renaissance.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester, alternate<br />

years.<br />

316-THEATRE HISTORY II. A continuation of Theatre 315. Traces the development<br />

of theatre from the beginning of the Renaissance to the nineteenth century.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester,<br />

alternate years.<br />

320-SOUND DESIGN. Study of current theories and basic techniques used in<br />

sound design for theatrical production. Acoustical theory, sound mixing, editing,<br />

recording and playback techniques are explored. Microphone and speaker set<br />

ups and variations to be encountered in different performance settings will be<br />

explored in a laboratory as well as with practical, hands-on experience.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester as needed.<br />

321-STAGE MANAGEMENT. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor. The theory<br />

and practice of stage management. Students learn to prepare a script, manage a<br />

production, and call a show. Participation in a production during the semester is<br />

required.<br />

Two hours a week. Credit, two semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

407-MODERN THEATRE. The student will be introduced to the theatrical literature<br />

and events of the twentieth and twenty-first century, including the origins of<br />

and developments in American Musical Theatre. Students will be encouraged to<br />

read and write critically about the events and compositions of the period and to<br />

develop a sense of connection between them. Cross listed as ENG 407.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

408-SHAKESPEARE. Prerequisite: C- or better in English 102/104. (Cross Listed as<br />

ENG 400). A study of Shakespeare’s major works with an emphasis on the major<br />

comedies and tragedies.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

409-SCENE STUDIES. Prerequisite: Theatre 309. An advanced acting course<br />

which focuses on the dynamics of ensemble playing. Students are instructed in<br />

script analysis. Practical work focuses on sharing focus, supporting other actors,<br />

listening, and dynamics.<br />

Two class hours and two laboratory hours a week. Credit, two semester hours.<br />

Offered as needed. May be repeated for credit.<br />
