102-CREATING SUCCESS. This course addresses concepts and skills necessary for<br />

student success in and outside the classroom. The course will utilize instruments<br />

and inventories designed to promote self reflection, individual evaluation of<br />

skills and strengths, improved study habits, improved communication skills, and<br />

other confidence-building and success strategies. This course may be required for<br />

students on secondary academic probation.<br />

One hour a week. Credit, one semester hour. Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

201-INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANTSHIP. A course designed to provide supervised<br />

observation and participation in an educational setting. Three to nine hours a<br />

week. Credit, one to three semester hours. May be repeated for a maximum of<br />

six semester hours.<br />

Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

202-MATHEMATICS SKILLS FOR THE PRE-SERVICE TEACHER. Counts as elective<br />

hours. A review of basic mathematic competencies designed for students<br />

pursuing teaching licensure who may need additional study of basic arithmetic,<br />

algebra, advanced algebra, averages and rounding, estimation and sequences,<br />

exponents, fractions and square roots and geometry. Offered in select regional<br />

locations each semester.<br />

Two hours a week. Credit, two semester hours.<br />

302-PSYCHOLOGY OF EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN. Prerequisite: Psychology 201.<br />

This course is an overview of the various mental, physical and emotional disabilities<br />

which may be found in the public school classroom. Attention will be given to<br />

historical perspectives, models, theories, philosophies, and trends that provide<br />

the basis for special education. A study of research, public law requirements for<br />

students with educational disabilities, medical aspects associated with disabilities,<br />

mainstreaming and practical classroom methods for dealing with exceptional<br />

children will be incorporated. Field experience in the public schools is included in<br />

the course (cross-listed with Psychology 302).<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered every semester<br />

303-PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. This course includes<br />

methods, materials, activities, and development of programs for children in<br />

grades K-3 and 4-8. In addition to class, students are placed in an elementary<br />

school to assist the physical education specialist. Fitness, motor learning, and<br />

developmental patterns will be emphasized. (Crosslisted with PE 303)<br />
