260-THE FIGURE IN ART. A study of the human form in visual art from the<br />

prehistoric to the contemporary. The course explores the continued relevance<br />

and meaning of the figure as subject matter and metaphor.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered spring semester.<br />

261-FORM AND SPACE. A study of the history of three dimensional fine art,<br />

functional applied art, and architecture.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered as needed.<br />

262-HISTORY OF GRAPHIC DESIGN. A study of graphic design both historical and<br />

contemporary, from manuscripts to Macintoshes.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered as needed.<br />

300-INTERMEDIATE PAINTING. Prerequisite: Art 200. Further development of<br />

painting processes and techniques.<br />

One lecture hour and four studio hours a week. Credit, three semester hours.<br />

Offered fall and spring semesters.<br />

302-INTERMEDIATE PRINTMAKING. Prerequisite: Art 202. Further development<br />

of printmaking processes and techniques.<br />

306-INTERMEDIATE DRAWING. Prerequisite: Art 105, 206. Further development<br />

of drawing processes and techniques.<br />

307-OUTER BANKS WORKSHOP. Consent of instructor required. This workshop<br />

is a fourteen-day field trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. For the serious<br />

student, this is an excellent opportunity to work in all two-dimensional media<br />

from both life and the landscape. The Outer Banks area offers miles of unspoiled<br />

beaches, marshlands, sounds, as well as fishing piers, boat docks, and numerous<br />

other interesting places where one can interact with the landscape and the people<br />

of this coastal area.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. May be repeated once for credit. Offered May Term<br />

and Summer Term.<br />

308-ART SEMINAR II. A keystone course focusing on self directed portfolio<br />

development. Students will work under faculty supervision to conceive and<br />

execute a cohesive thematic body of work.<br />
