333-VI CLASSIC WORKSHOP. Students will work with outside professionals such<br />

as judges, stewards and show managers to learn how to run a large “A” level horse<br />

show.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. May be repeated for credit. Offered Spring semester.<br />

335-EQUINE ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY AND FIRST AID. Prerequisite: Junior/Senior<br />

status. An in-depth study of the anatomy and physiology of the horse. This course<br />

will cover the basic evolutionary changes and functioning of the skeletal, muscular,<br />

circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, reproductive and integumentary<br />

systems of the horse. In addition, first aid for diseases, unsoundnesses and<br />

emergency situations will be dealt with.<br />

Three lecture hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester.<br />

336-METHODS OF TEACHING II. Prerequisite: EQST 324, Jr/Sr status or permission.<br />

This course will be a continuation of Methods of Teaching with emphasis on handson<br />

experience. Students will be required to teach Fundamentals classes under<br />

the supervision of Equine Studies faculty. Class will also meet in a discussion<br />

setting to evaluate problems and developments.<br />

Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall and spring semester.<br />

343-EVENTING I. Prerequisite: Permission of Instructor. This course is designed to<br />

introduce the student to a horse trial. The three phases comprising a trial (dressage,<br />

cross-country and stadium jumping) and the United States Eventing Association<br />

and USA Equestrian rules governing them will be studied and practiced. Exercises<br />

are geared to the beginner novice and novice levels of eventing.<br />

Two mounted hours a week. Credit, one semester hour. Offered as needed. May<br />

be repeated for credit.<br />

344-EVENTING II. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. This is a continuation<br />

of the skills acquired in Eventing I. Exercises are geared toward training level<br />

eventing and above. Students will learn to develop conditioning programs for the<br />

event horse as well as to introduce green horses to cross-country jumping.<br />

Two mounted hours a week. Credit, one semester hour. May be repeated for<br />

credit. Offered as needed.<br />

346-EQUINE NUTRITION LAB. Prerequisite: Equine Studies 326 or concurrent<br />

enrollment. This course will explore ration balancing problems and learning how<br />

to utilize a computer program to balance rations.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered spring semester.<br />
