302-COMPARATIVE RELIGION. A historical study of the major living world<br />

religions with emphasis on those religions not traditionally associated with the<br />

Western world.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester.<br />

303-THE OLD TESTAMENT PROPHETS. A study of the history and nature of the<br />

prophetic movement in the Old Testament with emphasis on the personalities<br />

involved, the conditions to which the prophets spoke, and the prophetic message<br />

itself.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester<br />

(alternate years).<br />

304-THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF JESUS. A study of the person, teachings,<br />

and life of Jesus from the perspective of the New Testament writers and other<br />

interpreters, both ancient and modern.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester<br />

(alternate years).<br />

308-CHRISTIAN ETHICS. This course is designed to study and evaluate social<br />

issues of the present and their resolutions as they relate to essential Christian<br />

principles.<br />

years).<br />

315-THE LIFE AND WRITINGS OF PAUL. A study of the impact of Paul on early<br />

Christianity with particular emphasis on his writings and the circumstances which<br />

occasioned them. Attention will be given to Paul’s background and the first<br />

century Greco-Roman world.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered spring semester<br />

(alternate years).<br />

316-RELIGION IN AMERICA. A study of the history of the rich and diverse religious<br />

heritage in America, with emphasis on the relationship between American religion<br />

and American culture. The course will look at how Americans experiment with<br />

and experience religion.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered as needed.<br />

320-HONORS COMPARATIVE RELIGION. This is a thematic study of some of the<br />

minor and all of the major religions of the world. The major religions are Hinduism,<br />

Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. There will be much discussion on the<br />

ways in which these religions are similar or different from each other. A major<br />

paper is required. Some reading in the primary sources is expected.<br />

Three lecture hours. Credit, three semester hours. Offered fall semester.<br />
