436-PIANO PEDAGOGY. Prerequisites: 300 level in Applied Piano and permission<br />

of instructor. Fundamentals of the teaching of piano to beginning students of<br />

all ages. A survey of teaching methods and materials, pedagogical theories and<br />

principles, studio organization and procedure will be included. A practicum in<br />

individual and group instruction is required: each student will teach a beginning<br />

piano student for a 10-week period.<br />

Credit, two semester hours. May be repeated once for credit. Offered fall and<br />

spring semesters, alternating years.<br />

437-PIANO LITERATURE. Prerequisites: MUS 436 (piano pedagogy) and<br />

permission. A survey of the teaching methods and materials for piano students<br />

of intermediate through early advanced levels. Special attention will be given to<br />

teaching editions, repertoire selection, memorization, and technique as it applies<br />

to the literature, contest and recital preparation, practice techniques, individual<br />

and group instruction, and music organizations. Practicum: Teach two students<br />

per week for 14 weeks.<br />

Credit, four semester hours. Offered fall semester, alternating years.<br />

438-SENIOR RECITAL. Prerequisites: All MUS coursework completed as outlined<br />

through first semester of Senior Year and permission. Preparation of a public full<br />

recital featuring performances of works by established composers.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered as needed.<br />

PHILOSOPHY<br />

100-INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY. This course is an introduction to some<br />

basic philosophical questions such as the following: What is real? What is true?<br />

What is the meaning of human life? Are persons free or determined? What is the<br />

nature of God? What are sound moral values?<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered every semester.<br />

102-HONORS INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY. This course is an introduction<br />

to basic philosophical issues including the following: What is truth? What is<br />

knowledge? What is the meaning of human life? Are people free or determined?<br />

Does God exist? What are sound moral values? There will be extensive in class<br />

discussion and a major paper. Much reading will be from primary sources.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered in the spring semester.<br />
