424-PROJECT/INTERNSHIP IN HERITAGE STUDIES AND CULTURAL TOURISM.<br />

Internships are arranged with the student to work at their choice of cultural tourism<br />

site or arts organization, including the Birthplace of Country Music Alliance, Bristol<br />

Rhythm and Roots, Heartwood: Southwest <strong>Virginia</strong>’s Artisan Gateway, William<br />

King Regional Arts Center, Bristol Motor Speedway, the <strong>Virginia</strong> Coal Heritage<br />

Trail, the Crooked Road, ’Round the Mountain, the Blue Ridge Folklife Center, the<br />

<strong>Virginia</strong> Commission for the Arts and other similar organizations. Students may<br />

opt to complete an academic project or prepare an exhibition in lieu of (or in<br />

addition to) an internship experience. Credit, one to three semester hours.<br />

Offered fall, spring, and summer semesters. May be repeated up to three semester<br />

hours.<br />

101-JAZZ I. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor. Studio classes in basic jazz<br />

theory and technique. (Cross-listed as Physical Education 128)<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Contact hours 2-3. May be repeated for credit. Offered<br />

spring alternate years.<br />

102-MODERN & CONTEMPORARY DANCE I. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.<br />

Studio classes in the fundamentals of classical modern and contemporary dance.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Contact hours 2-3. May be repeated for credit. Offered<br />

spring semester.<br />

104-TAP I. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. Studio work in basic tap<br />

technique. Exploring rhythm, conditioning the body, developing coordination,<br />

and basic theatre dance. (Cross-listed as Physical Education 120)<br />

151-BALLET I. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor. Basic theory, terminology,<br />

and studio classes in basic classical ballet technique. Emphasis placed on correct<br />

body placement and mastery of ballet fundamentals. (Cross-listed as Physical<br />
