201-RESIDENT ASSISTANT LEADERSHIP. This class is a leadership course with an<br />

emphasis on the skills necessary for a successful resident assistant. It is open<br />

for any students with an interest in being a resident assistant or increasing their<br />

leadership skills. Topics will include: growth and development of students, peer<br />

counseling, conflict resolution, community development and time management.<br />

Two hours per week. Credit, two semester hours.<br />

320-DIVERSITY IN AMERICAN CULTURE. This course examines the history of<br />

ethnic diversity in the United States as well as contemporarypolitical issues related<br />

to cultural diversity. It pays close attention to the rise of multiculturalism during<br />

the twentieth century and how racial diversity influenced political, social, and<br />

cultural discourse. Specific emphasis will be placed on understanding traditional<br />

Native American life-ways in modern times, African-American cultural history, and<br />

Latino/Hispanic immigration issues. The student will choose one of these topics<br />

to conduct more in-depth research, presenting the results of their research to<br />

their instructor and peers. This course satisfies as a Transfer Seminar.<br />

Three hours a week. Credit, three semester hours. Offered in fall semester.<br />

460-HONORS THESIS RESEARCH. This class is for honors students who are<br />

preparing to do their honors thesis. The class focuses on the methodology of<br />

doing lengthy, scholarly work. this class must be completed before an honors<br />

student may submit his or her honors thesis.<br />

Credit, one semester hour. Offered each semester.<br />

461-HONORS THESIS WRITING. This class is for honors students who are in the<br />

process of writing their honors thesis. It includes supervision by the honors<br />

student’s faculty committee and the Honors Director. The culmination of this<br />

class is the completion of the written thesis and its oral presentation.<br />

Credit, two semester hours. Offered each semester.<br />

INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES<br />

The Interdisciplinary Studies major, which incorporates coursework from the<br />

arts and humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences, is designed<br />

primarily to provide a broad knowledge base in the liberal arts that will allow<br />

graduates to pursue a variety of career opportunities including, but not limited<br />

to, PREK-6 elementary and K-12 special education teacher licensure. The major<br />

offers students, who do not plan careers as teachers, variety in course work as<br />

well as flexibility in the area of elective credits.<br />

The Interdisciplinary Studies major is designed to build the student’s content<br />

knowledge on a liberal arts foundation. Admission into the upperdivision of the<br />
