Professionalism<br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• respect the wishes of parents <strong>for</strong> immunisations while<br />
still ensuring they have the relevant in<strong>for</strong>mation to make<br />
an in<strong>for</strong>med choice<br />
• ensure the practice environment is safe <strong>for</strong> children<br />
• describe their practice policy <strong>for</strong> ensuring the rights<br />
of children<br />
• recognise specific difficulties <strong>for</strong> children that may arise<br />
when there are changes in the family structure and the<br />
impact this might have on the consultation process.<br />
Scholarship<br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• describe how they use audit to ensure the care of their<br />
children is best practice<br />
• write appropriate reports as required in relation to<br />
consultations with children<br />
• keep comprehensive notes detailing history and<br />
examination management and those present in the<br />
consultation<br />
• undertake ongoing learning in paediatric childhood<br />
conditions.<br />
Context of <strong>General</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• recognise the influence of the family/whānau on<br />
prevention, presentation and management of childhood<br />
illness and injury<br />
• describe the various government agencies available to<br />
children and their family/whānau and carers<br />
• identify community and other resources available to<br />
help infants and children and their family/whānau, and<br />
access these effectively<br />
• discuss legislation, policies and support systems available<br />
<strong>for</strong> the protection and care of children.<br />
• establish relationships with allied health services involved<br />
with children<br />
