M <strong>Curriculum</strong> Men’s Health <strong>for</strong> <strong>General</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />

Professionalism<br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• act as an advocate <strong>for</strong> male patients who need time<br />

off work but find this difficult to ask <strong>for</strong><br />

• recognise the importance of providing reports in a<br />

timely and comprehensive manner <strong>for</strong> third parties,<br />

such as ACC.<br />

Scholarship<br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• consider and research issues relevant to men’s health,<br />

and initiatives that might allow men to benefit from more<br />

illness prevention and early diagnosis and management<br />

• apply reflective skills and identify areas of personal learning<br />

• undertake a practice audit related to men’s health issues<br />

and selected screening programmes<br />

• show a willingness to teach and support the practice team<br />

in men’s health.<br />

Context of <strong>General</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to identify increased risks to men’s health, particularly represented in their practice<br />

demographic through lifestyle or occupation.<br />

Management<br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• consider how the primary care team could improve uptake<br />

of screening and preventive health initiatives <strong>for</strong> men, and<br />

how they might encourage and lead this<br />

• contribute to health education <strong>for</strong> men.<br />
