and arrange appropriate investigations<br />
• describe the impact of long-term health conditions on<br />
work capacity and interventions <strong>for</strong> minimising disability<br />
• describe how to investigate a health complaint that<br />
may relate to work or environmental exposure<br />
• describe the biopsychosocial model of illness and disease<br />
and the relevance of this in assessing fitness <strong>for</strong> work<br />
• describe the utility and general principles of workplace<br />
assessment<br />
• describe common or important occupational diseases,<br />
their treatment and potential long-term impact<br />
• define the potential health effects of common and<br />
important workplace hazards<br />
• outline the various local workplaces in your region and the<br />
potential impact these might have both on health and the<br />
ability to employ staff with health issues<br />

• describe ways of supporting their own occupational<br />
health and wellbeing, including that of their family/whānau<br />
• identify their own workplace risks and harms<br />
• offer appropriate advocacy when certifying with integrity<br />
and disclosing in<strong>for</strong>mation to third parties<br />
• identify when to seek advice or refer and undertake this<br />
appropriately and expediently<br />
• explain their role in relation to patients and agencies<br />
related to work<br />
• explore the role of medicine as a profession in the context<br />
