Professionalism<br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• advocate in relation to determinants of health, providing<br />
equitable access to interventions that are available<br />
• describe the principles of ‘cold chain’ management and<br />
the protocols within the practice<br />
• describe the privacy issues that relate to contact tracing<br />
• describe the infection control activities within their own<br />
practice, such as sterilisation and hand-washing<br />
• describe the protocols within the practice <strong>for</strong> containment<br />
of infectious diseases and providing protection <strong>for</strong> the<br />
practice team and other patients<br />
• undertake whole-practice training in managing significant<br />
events, cold chain management and pandemic or<br />
emergency planning.<br />
Scholarship<br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• write appropriate referrals to services involved with<br />
public health<br />
• appraise evidence on public and population health issues<br />
and apply this to their practice, recognising the central<br />
role general practice has in improving outcomes<br />
• describe the process <strong>for</strong> notifying infectious diseases<br />
and access resources to aid the process<br />
• undertake regular audit of screening programmes within<br />
the practice and describe ways to improve outcomes<br />
from screening.<br />
Context of <strong>General</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />
<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />
• describe the Ministry of Health targets <strong>for</strong> population<br />
health outcomes<br />
• describe the various public health services available in<br />
the area<br />
• explore the role and activities of the local PHO in<br />
improving population health<br />
• discuss the role of the medical officer of health<br />
• describe the activities undertaken by and targets <strong>for</strong> the<br />
National Screening Unit and the involvement of primary<br />
care in meeting these targets<br />
• access immigration services in their local area.<br />
