Scholarship<br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• use opportunities to attend professional development<br />

and update themself and their team<br />

• particularly when there is pressure or limited availability<br />

of services.<br />

• audit their practice in relation to renal diseaseact as<br />

advocate <strong>for</strong> the patient in writing referrals<br />

Context of <strong>General</strong> <strong>Practice</strong><br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• identify groups vulnerable to renal disease within the<br />

practice population<br />

• access services <strong>for</strong> home dialysis and, in rural areas in<br />

particular, discuss travel and other barriers to dialysis<br />

• identify and use other providers of patient in<strong>for</strong>mation<br />

and support <strong>for</strong> renal disease and incontinence<br />

• implement screening programmes as appropriate locally<br />

or nationally <strong>for</strong> urological conditions, such as prostate<br />

conditions<br />

• describe resources provided by hospitals and secondary<br />

care in the local area<br />

• consider the impact of renal disease on occupation,<br />

needing time <strong>for</strong> dialysis.<br />

Management<br />

<strong>The</strong> GP will demonstrate the ability to:<br />

• discuss chronic disease management funding and how<br />

this is used in the practice<br />

• provide leadership in the practice team in reducing<br />

inequalities in care <strong>for</strong> patients with renal conditions<br />

• describe local guidelines <strong>for</strong> managing renal disease and<br />

other conditions, such as general practitioner access to<br />

CTU <strong>for</strong> renal stones<br />

• provide resources to patients to help in<strong>for</strong>m them about<br />

renal and urological conditions.<br />
