Lecture: Political parties. Main political parties, their background, their ideological<br />

foundation, their intervention in recent national history, their main referents.<br />

Political system and constitutional law. Electoral law, electoral system, participation<br />

and voting. Seminar: Analysis of main political parties current situation and<br />

their perspective vis-à-vis electoral campaign. Assignment: coverage of a party<br />

convention. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 5: Curran and Park (2000), Armstrong (2004) and<br />

Perloff (1998).<br />

Week 5<br />

Lecture: Political processes. Recent history: account of the most relevant recent<br />

national events, causes and political contexts, main political actors, consequences,<br />

effects on current political scenario. Regional and international frameworks.<br />

Seminar: analysis of media coverage of events addressed. Assignment: interview two<br />

politicians involved in the events discussed. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 6: Curran and Park<br />

(2000), Armstrong (2004) and Perloff (1998).<br />

Week 6<br />

Lecture: Political debates. Recent history: account of the most relevant political,<br />

economic and ideological debates in the last decade, explanations, political<br />

framework, supporters and antagonists. Regional and international frameworks.<br />

Seminar: discussion of major ideological trends related to debates addressed in<br />

the lecture. Assignment: interview with a historian and with a sociologist about the<br />

events discussed. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 7: Curran and Park (2000) and United Nations<br />

(2006).<br />
