Week 26<br />

Lecture: Newsroom and a political section. Division of roles and topics in a political<br />

section. Investigative reports. Computer assisted research. Day to day routine and<br />

organization of work. Checking other media: agency, radio, Internet and television.<br />

Seminar: comparative analysis of the local media coverage of political issues.<br />

Assignment: students will visit the political section of a newspaper or magazine<br />

and will elaborate a written report of the organization of work. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 27:<br />

Herbert (2000), Jenkins and Thorburn (2003), Ellis (2007), Fox (2001) and Ryan and<br />

O`Donnell (2001).<br />

Week 27<br />

Lecture and seminar: Special media coverage. Official trips, regional and<br />

international summits, special political events, reporting from areas of conflict.<br />

Envoys, correspondents and stringers. A guest journalist with expertise in the field<br />

is suggested. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 28: Ellis (2007), Fox (2001) and Ryan and O`Donnell<br />

(2001).<br />

Week 28<br />

Lecture: Editing. Pre-edition and post-edition. Conceptual frameworks. Gathering<br />

in<strong>for</strong>mation through a journalistic prism. Thinking headlines, pictures and graphics<br />

with political criteria. Seminar: comparative analysis of some different criteria of<br />

editing in local media. Reading <strong>for</strong> week 29: Ellis (2007), Fox (2001), Levin (2000) and<br />

Stein and Burnett (2006).<br />

Week 29<br />

Lecture: Reporting and writing <strong>for</strong> differing media. Differences and similarities<br />

between reporting <strong>for</strong> television, radio and press. In<strong>for</strong>mation, images, voices: what<br />

to look <strong>for</strong> and what to take into account in any case. Multimedia journalist. Seminar:<br />

a politician will be invited to hold a simulated press conference and student will<br />

prepare reports <strong>for</strong> differing media.<br />

Week 30<br />

Seminar and workshop: Oral presentation and discussion of the fourth special report<br />

on financing a political campaign.
