economic implications of well focused or haphazard healthcare delivery system.<br />

in your community.<br />

Week 4<br />

Reporting techniques <strong>for</strong> science <strong>journalism</strong>, including interviewing and<br />

presentation.<br />

Assignment: Interview a senior public health official in your locality on a current<br />

issue of concern and write a 500-word story.<br />

Reading <strong>for</strong> next week: Meyer (Chapter 3) and Sobowale (Chapter 14).<br />

Week 5<br />

Writing scientific and technical language <strong>for</strong> a mass audience. Sustaining accuracy<br />

and context while writing in a way that the general public can understand.<br />

Assignment: Interview a leading scientist or an instructor in science in your city and<br />

write a 2- page news story.<br />

Reading <strong>for</strong> next week: Meyer (pp 4 – 17) and Lambright (Chapter 1).<br />

Week 6<br />

Different branches of science and how each contributes to the enhancement of<br />

human life; the symbiotic relationship between science and technology.<br />

Assignment: Compare and contrast three branches of science and how they impact<br />

on human lives (in not more than 500 words).<br />

Reading <strong>for</strong> next week: NGA (extracts on population issues).<br />

Week 7<br />

Population issues: birth control; child spacing; use of contraceptives; the reality and<br />

the politics of population control; its economic and social implications.<br />

Assignment: Survey 20 women in your town/city and write a 10 paragraph story of
