Seminar: Planning a class project: Web zine or news Web site. Principles of Web<br />

design, in<strong>for</strong>mation architecture, usability of news Web sites.<br />

Lab: Finishing resume pages. Starting to build the class Web zine.<br />

Reading: Stovall 2<br />

Week 5<br />

Seminar: News Web site analysis: students dissect local and/or <strong>for</strong>eign news Web<br />

site that will serve as benchmark <strong>for</strong> the class Web zine project. Discussing and<br />

assigning stories students will write and edit <strong>for</strong> the class Web zine.<br />

Lab: HTML: Introduction to creating tables and using CSS. Creation of Web zine in<br />

HTML and CSS.<br />

Reading: Foust 5. Stovall 4.<br />

Week 6<br />

Seminar: Gathering in<strong>for</strong>mation on the Web. Principles of Computer-Assisted<br />

Reporting. Progress reports of the stories <strong>for</strong> the Web zine.<br />

Lab: HTML: Additional techniques with tables and CSS. Continuation of development<br />

of Web zine in HTML with CSS.<br />

Reading: Foust 7. Stovall 5.<br />

Week 7<br />

Seminar: Principles of writing and editing <strong>for</strong> the Web. Stories are due and edited <strong>for</strong><br />

publication on the Web zine.<br />

Lab: Introduction to digital camera and techniques.<br />

Week 8<br />

Seminar: Web zine evaluation. Mid term exam or short paper/essay presentation.<br />

Lab: Introduction to Photoshop and introduction to audio interviewing <strong>for</strong> the Web.<br />
