Web sites. Creating a class blog to be combined with the Web zine. Discussing and<br />

selecting topics <strong>for</strong> long research paper to be presented during week 15.<br />

Lab: Inserting images and/or photos into Web zine. Introduction to Audacity.<br />

Week 10<br />

Seminar: Multimedia and interactivity: changing the journalistic storytelling.<br />

Discussing and assigning stories students will produce <strong>for</strong> the class Web zine,<br />

emphasizing multimedia projects (i.e., video, audio, photo slideshows, etc).<br />

Lab: Inserting audio stories into Web zine. Introduction to the video camera and video<br />

reporting techniques <strong>for</strong> the Web.<br />

Reading: Stovall Chapters 8 and 9;<br />

Week 11<br />

Seminar: Basic principles of video and photo <strong>for</strong> the Web. Animated and interactive<br />

infographics, audio-slideshows and other <strong>for</strong>ms of visual presentations<br />

Lab: Introduction to Soundslides and insert stories into Web zine. Introduction to<br />

iMovie (or other video editing software like Adobe Premiere or FinalCut Pro).<br />

Reading: Quinn, 2<br />

Week 12<br />

Seminar: The multimedia newsrooms: how the Internet is changing the structure<br />

of news organizations. The impact of mobile technology on news production and<br />

dissemination: from text-messaging news to mobile phone to podcasts and other<br />

new <strong>for</strong>mats.<br />

Lab: Insert video stories into Web zine. Introduction to making a podcast.<br />

Reading: Foust Chapter 10; (Important: local/national reading on legal aspects)<br />

Week 13<br />

Seminar: Ethical and legal problems of online <strong>journalism</strong>. Multimedia projects are<br />

due.<br />

Lab: Insert podcasts (optional) into Web zine.<br />

Reading: Online articles on the job market situation in your region<br />

Week 14<br />

Seminar: Discussion about the job market and opportunities to work in online<br />

<strong>journalism</strong> in the region or country. Evaluation of class Web zine and blog.<br />

Lab: Finalizing Web zine.
