• Specialized reporting
Students specialize in one subject chosen from those offered by
the school. Specialized reporting (ideally constructed) stitches the
substantive knowledge of an academic discipline into the craft of
reporting. Subjects should correspond to journalism “beats” and,
where possible, to the student’s arts/science background and
master’s program.
• Analytical and opinion writing
• Graduate level courses in a single academic discipline (or
combined field of study) that supports an area of specialized
journalism.

• Master’s project
A major work of journalism in an aspect of the student’s specialized
subject, with an accompanying report reflecting on the journalistic
process and ethical and other implications of the project.
