1. Lecture: Computer-Assisted Reporting<br />

Assignment: Students start researching on statistics and databases they should<br />

access <strong>for</strong> their trend story. Memo on their plan and progress of their research on<br />

the trend story due 2st week of Week 12.<br />

Houston’s (2004) Chapters 3 and 4, Spreadsheets (Parts 1 and 2)<br />

2. Final prewriting consultation on profile<br />

Week 11<br />

1. Lecture: Spreadsheets <strong>for</strong> Journalists<br />

In-class exercise (Computer lab): Students do spreadsheet exercise(s). (2) Students<br />

are given an un-critiqued copy of the deep profile written by a classmate to read and<br />

critique.<br />

Assignment: Students rewrite and resubmit the deep profile along with original copy.<br />

Due next meeting.<br />

2. Lecture: More Storytelling Techniques<br />

Assignment: Students write memo on how the Wall Street Journal Formula and<br />

Section Technique can be applied to their trend story. Due next meeting.<br />
