Lecture: History of mass communication. The instructors will use Crawley & Heyer<br />

(2007).<br />

The relationship among media and their dynamics.<br />

Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Radio (in Crawley, 2007): Mitchell Stephens,<br />

Television Trans<strong>for</strong>ms the News (in Crawley, 2007); Two Cultures–Television versus<br />

Print (in Crawley, 2007).<br />

Seminar: Students will discuss Dominick’s (2007) Chapter 3.<br />

Reading <strong>for</strong> Week 3: Media in twenty six <strong>countries</strong> are examined, as case studies,<br />

in Dominick (2007), Gross (2002), Price (2002) and Hachten (1993). The reading<br />

assignment is the case study of the country where the course is taught.
