Statement of responsibility
The Board members are responsible for monitoring the preparation of and the integrity of the nancial
statements and related information included in this Annual Report.
The Auditor-General South Africa is responsible for auditing and reporting on the nancial statements.
The nancial statements are prepared in accordance with statements of South African Generally Accepted
Accounting Practice and incorporate disclosure in line with the accounting philosophy of the entity. The
nancial statements are based on appropriate accounting policies consistently applied and supported by
reasonable and prudent judgements and estimates.
The Board members believe that the entity will be a going concern in the year ahead. For this reason they
continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing the entity’s annual nancial statements.

Strategic objectives
The object of the Board is, with due regard to the nancial position of the Fund and the requirements of
each case, to render such aid as the board may deem fair and reasonable to members and former members
of the South African National Defence Force and Auxiliary Services established in accordance with the
Defence Act, and their dependants who suffer hardship or nancial distress arising, directly or indirectly, as
a result of any service or duties in terms of the new Defence Act, 2002 (Act No. 42 of 2002), performed
by such members, and to provide facilities to or for such members and former members who perform such
services or duties.
