RELATIONS<br />

Overview<br />

The <strong>Defence</strong> Foreign Relations (DFR) subdivision<br />

contributed towards the government plan <strong>of</strong><br />

action through increasing representation in Africa,<br />

<br />

Embassy in Tunis in April <strong>2008</strong>. It also contributed<br />

to the achievement <strong>of</strong> the Apex Priorities<br />

by ensuring the annual meeting <strong>of</strong> the Joint-<br />

<br />

with Zimbabwe. The <strong>Defence</strong> Attachés supported<br />

<br />

facilitation <strong>of</strong> meetings.<br />

The subdivision was involved in the arrangements <strong>of</strong><br />

international bilateral meetings and the continental<br />

and regional multinational organisations’ defence<br />

and security structures, with special emphasis on<br />

<br />

Community organ and the Inter-state <strong>Defence</strong><br />

<br />

to the government’s foreign relations initiatives.<br />

Three defence foreign relations courses were<br />

successfully presented, <strong>of</strong> which one was for<br />

Brigadier-Generals only. In these courses, senior<br />

personnel from the DOD, the <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

Foreign Affairs and academic institutions were<br />

utilised to orientate the learners regarding the defence<br />

foreign relations function and the aspects <strong>of</strong> defence<br />

increase in defence diplomacy activities in the DOD,<br />

despite the non-alignment <strong>of</strong> the structure with the<br />

functions required for the DOD.<br />
