von Neumann, John (1903-57)
John von Neumann was born in Hungary and moved to the United States
in 1931 where he became a professor of mathematics and physics. He
is credited with the development of game theory. His book, The Theory
of Games and Economic Behavior, which he co-authored with Oskar
Morgenstern (1902-77), is regarded as a classic in the subject. In addition
to his major contributions to the development of economic theory, he also
made important contributions in cybernetics and hence the development
of the modern computer and atomic physics.
