Dictionary of Evidence-based Medicine 87 Internot/onol Classification of Diseases The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is a system of disease classification which is regularly updated by the World Health Organization. The classification has its roots in the standard nomenclature for causes of death first proposed by W Farr (1807-83). The latest revision is the 10th (ICD-10), published by the WHO in 1992. The 21 disease categories are shown in Table 3 below. J Jarman index The Jarman index or the Jarman underprivileged area score (UPA(8)) was developed to serve as a measure of UK general practitioners' workload. It has also been used as a proxy measure for deprivation in medical general practice research although such use has been criticized (Jarman B (1983) Identification of underprivileged areas. Judgement analysis Judgement analysis refers to the methodologies associated with the modelling and statistical analysis of how human judgements are made.
