Internot/onol Classification <strong>of</strong> Diseases<br />
The International Classification <strong>of</strong> Diseases (ICD) is a system <strong>of</strong> disease classification<br />
which is regularly updated by the World Health Organization. The<br />
classification has its roots in the standard nomenclature for causes <strong>of</strong> death<br />
first proposed by W Farr (1807-83). The latest revision is the 10th (ICD-10),<br />
published by the WHO in 1992. The 21 disease categories are shown in<br />
Table 3 below.<br />
