His experience includes over three yearsof green building consulting, over twelve years in the implementationand construction administration of large commercialprojects, and five years of public works management consulting.Mr. Heiber has been a major participant in the development ofnational programs to promote the concept of green buildings inthe building industry, integrating indoor air quality, energy performance,and the environmental performance of materials intothe construction and design process. Mr. Heiber’s efforts haveincluded the founding (along with other Sigal Environmental,Inc. staff) of the ASTM Green <strong>Building</strong> Subcommittee E-50.06under the Pollution Prevention Committee which is currentlydeveloping standards and guidelines in green buildings. He isalso an active participant in the Green <strong>Building</strong> Council, developinga market-based green building rating system for the buildingindustry.■ Lisa Heschong is an architect and partner of the HeschongMahone Group in Fair Oaks, California. She received her mastersdegree in architecture from the Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology and has specialized in all aspects of energy efficiencyin buildings. She is the author of Thermal Delight inArchitecture and has taught at various universities. Most recentlyshe has been teaching the Federal Relighting Workshops forthe U.S. Department of Energy.■ Philip Jessup is responsible for the overall management anddirection of the International Council for Local EnvironmentalIntiative’s (ICLEI’s) Cities for Climate Protection Campaign, aproject whose purpose is to strengthen the capacity of local governmentsto reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.His work with ICLEI also includes project development andmanagement of the Green <strong>Building</strong>s and Green Fleets programs;organization of workshops and summits; creation of publications;and fundraising. Mr. Jessup has worked for close to 10years on energy and environment issues in a variety of professionalcapacities in the U.S. and Canada. He has been withI C L E Isince its inception five years ago.■ Barbara C. Lippiatt is an economist in the Office of AppliedEconomics, <strong>Building</strong> and Fire Research Laboratory, at theNational Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). She isdeveloping economic decision-making software tools to efficientlydesign and manage buildings. She has applied these decisiontools to a wide variety of building problems, includingselecting environmentally benign building materials, measuringproductivity impacts of design decisions, identifying cost-effectivefire-safety strategies, rating historic buildings, and selectingcost-effective energy and water conservation investments. Twoof her software publications have been on the National<strong>Technical</strong> Information Service’s Bestseller list; another is beingdistributed by the 65,000-member National Fire ProtectionAssociation. She serves on the ASTM Green <strong>Building</strong>sSubcommittee, and is leading the development of a standard forevaluating environmental and economic impacts of buildingmaterials over their life cycle.■ John D. Longman is a principal with the international acousticaland audiovisual consulting firm, Cerami & Associates, basedin New York City. He specializes in architectural and buildingservices acoustics consulting with major developers, architects,engineers, and interior designers on a wide range of commercial,residential, industrial, and environmental projects—both withinthe United States and throughout the world. Mr. Longman waseducated in London and has specialized in building acoustics forover 12 years.■ Dru Meadows is manager of the “Green Team” at BSWInternational. Ms Meadows chairs the American Society forTesting Materials Committee on Green <strong>Building</strong>s, and representsBSW on the Board of the U.S. Green <strong>Building</strong> Council. Sheserved on the Construction Specifications Institute’s Ad HocEnvironmental Issues Committee and is an honorary member ofthe CSI Los Angeles Chapter Environmental Affairs Committee.She serves on the advisory board for the Product EmissionTesting Laboratory and on the local construction board forHabitat for Humanity. In 1993, Ms. Meadows received anAppreciation Award from the City of Los Angeles in recognitionfor her contributions to the city’s environmental affairs.■ Michael Myers is a Program Manager with the Department ofEnergy, and is a Team Leader for the Residential <strong>Building</strong>Programs. He manages research initiatives and managementpractices to improve new and existing housing. Previously, Mr.Myers was the Director of Energy Services for Austin, Texas, andmanaged the development of the City of Austin’s Green BuilderProgram which received international honors at the UnitedNations Conference on Environment and Development. He previouslyworked for the cities of New York and San Antonio.Mike is on the Washington, D.C. Habitat for Humanity’sGreenHome Advisory Board of Directors, and is a member of theChesapeake <strong>Sustainable</strong> Council. Mr. Myers has a M.S. degree inUrban Studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio.■ William G. Reed, AIA is the studio principle of the HillierGroup’s Washington, D.C., office and specialist in green buildingand sustainable planning initiatives firm-wide for the fourthlargest architectural firm in the nation. Mr. Reed regularly lecturesand consults on green building and community sustainabilitydesign issues to organizations, government agencies, andprivate developers. He serves as co-chair of the ASTM ResidentialGreen <strong>Building</strong> Subcommittee and as a regular instructor for thePassive Solar Industries Council, and is a member of the U.S.Green <strong>Building</strong> Council.■ David Rousseau is president of Archemy Consulting Ltd. inVancouver, Canada, and Senior Research Associate at theUniversity of British Columbia School of ArchitectureEnvironmental Research Group. His training is in environmentalstudies, architecture, planning, and health sciences, withmany years of practical experience in the building industry as aspecialized design consultant in the fields of environmentalplanning and healthy buildings. In addition, he writes and lecturesextensively and has won several design and researchawards, including a 1995 Progressive Architecture ResearchCitation for the BEPAC Program (co-recipient); a 1992 JoelPolsky Research Award from the Foundation for Interior DesignEducation Research; the 1992 first prize in the Canada Mortgageand Housing Corporation Healthy Housing DesignCompetition, Infill Category, (co-recipient); and the 1990National Research Council, Canadian Construction ResearchBoard award for research innovation (co-recipient).■ Kim Sorvig is a licensed landscape architect and professor at theUniversity of New Mexico’s School of Architecture andPlanning. He was trained in botany and ecology at the RoyalBotanic Gardens in London (Kew Gardens) and received hisMaster of Landscape Architecture degree from the University ofPennsylvania. He is contributing editor of LandscapeArchitecture Magazine. In practice and research, he specializes inlandscape design that conveys interpretive information, such asbotanic gardens, historic sites, memorials, and sacred spaces.■ Dr. James A. Tshudy is a manager of environmental productperformance for Armstrong World Industries where he isresponsible for the environmental performance of all Armstrongproducts worldwide. His efforts focus on understanding andapplying environmental life cycle concepts to product performance,indoor air quality issues, and strategic environmentalmanagement systems for corporations. Dr. Tshudy serves as theChairman of ASTM Subcommittee E50.06.01, Life CycleAssessment of <strong>Building</strong> Materials.
