A list <strong>of</strong> the recommendations forimprovement works made and adopted is at Annex XXI.New Building Projects - EVAs3.61 Ins<strong>of</strong>ar as the HKHS's new projects areconcerned (including those completed after 1980),adequate EVAs requirements have been/will be incorporatedinto the relevant building plans in accordance with theprevailing fire service standards and regulations.Today, the HKHS maintains close liaison with the FSD forthe purposes <strong>of</strong> ensuring that EVAs in its estates arekept clear at all times.Maintenance and Inspection <strong>of</strong> FSIs and Equipment inHKHS's Estates3.62 As regards FSIs and equipment in its estates,the HKHS engages specialist contractors to carry out thenecessary inspection on all FSIs and equipment in itsestates and other properties under its management on anannual basis. <strong>The</strong> contractor is required to issue acertificate (FS 251) within 14 days after completion <strong>of</strong>the work to the HKHS and forward a copy to the D <strong>of</strong> FS inaccordance with Section 9 <strong>of</strong> the Fire Service(Installations and Equipment) Regulations. In additionto engaging its contractor to carry out inspection andoverhaul <strong>of</strong> the FSIs and equipment in its estates andother properties under its management, the HKHS alsomaintains a standard schedule (Annex XXII) for its ownteam <strong>of</strong> estate management staff to inspect and examinethe effectiveness <strong>of</strong> the FSIs and equipment concerned toensure that they are all ready for use when the needarises.Upgrading <strong>of</strong> Existing FSIs and Equipment in HKHS'sEstates3.63 After the Yue Wan Estate fire, the HKHS hadheld a meeting with the FSD's representatives to discussthe feasibility and possibility <strong>of</strong> upgrading the FSIs andequipment in all its estates. <strong>The</strong> FSD had made somerecommendations which were subsequently adopted by theHKHS for implementation. <strong>The</strong>se recommendations mainlyinvolved the provisions <strong>of</strong> fire hydrant/hose reel- 28 -
