FIRE SERVICESa) CompartmentatxonThe system shall be installed in accordance with the Code ofPractice for Minimum Fire Service Installations and Equipment.For the aggregate volume of any continuous compartment exceeding28,000 m3, segregation by means of fire roller shutter is normallyrequired. Construction of the shutter shall be carried out by theMain Contractor. The installation of the actuating devices, suchas fusible/electro-thermal link and smoke/heat detector, shall becarried out by the nominated F.S. sub-contractor. Refer toBuilding Services Engineering Manual DBFW.b) Sprinkler System i) Sprinkler system would normally be required and classified asOH III for a Commercial Centre and for a Carpark asstipulated in the Loss Prevention Council (LPC) Rules,ii) The sprinkler tank is recommended to be located on the roofand with a booster pump system. If the water supply to theroof tank cannot be directly fed, a sump and pump system isrequired. Allowance should be made to cater for theinstallation of an additional layer of sprinkler points byspecial shops tenants.iii)For market, provision of two layers of sprinkler points shouldbe considered, one layer for the ceiling void of market stallsand the other below airducts in common areas/below stallcocklofts.iv) Drop pipes and associated valves leading to the othersprinkler layer should be installed at high level of commonareas for ease of servicing and maintenance.v) The PA shall check whether the system will be fed from thetown main at both ends.vi) It is recommended that the sprinkler installation for specialshops (e.g. Chinese Restaurant and Car Park) shall beseparately zoned and operated by a separate set of controlvalve.c) Fire DetectionSystemAn automatic fire alarm (AFA) system with direct telephone lineconnection and separate zoning and control is required.d) Fire Hydrant, HoseReel, PortableAppliancesThese systems shall be provided in conspicuous locations along theshopping arcade as well as inside market and special shop unit.All fire hydrants, hose reels and portable appliances shallpreferably be installed in an enclosure.Portable appliancesSand Buckets. • Water/CO 2FoamFire blanketno. as required9 Litres9 LitresNon-asbestos typePage 11 of 31
